This a short story on how we created our app
Creating a new product for amateur and professional pilots who seek adventure.
We have been working closely with several amateur flight clubs to fuel new adventures for seasoned pilots and newbies alike. As well as small airports to increase their overall traffic.
To create this app, I, the super multi-talented idea master, had to recruit the help of 4 additional team members. It pained me to admit that I couldn’t take on this project alone. But I needed to recruit the following individuals: A front-end and back-end developer, a designer, and a content creator/digital marketing expert.
I took on the role and responsibility of liaison between the customers(airports and flight clubs) and our team. My additional role was as an intern. I needed to get everyone coffee, and I wasn’t paid for my work.
The backend developer took on the responsibility of the team lead. They also created the databases and APIs. They worked closely with the front-end developer to optimize the software to ensure maximum update speed and reliance. The back-end dev also did rigorous testing to ensure there were no unforeseen bugs within our software for the best safety of the pilots.
The front-end developer worked closely with the designer to create the most sublime user experience for our app, maximizing the layout and intuitiveness of our app.
The designer worked on creating wireframes, mockups and prototypes. They also worked closely with the marketing expert/content creator to create a compelling brand identity, colour scheme, ad campaign, project assets and marketing/SEO strategy.
The marketing expert was in charge of creating our written content. They also worked closely with our customers conducting user testing to collect data about their trial experiences, feature requests, etc. They also planned creative ways to monetize the app to further entice users to use and share our app.
Since I wasn’t getting paid for my efforts, we had some extra cash that allowed us to hire a few legal advisors to write us a contract that would not hold us legally responsible for any errors that could occur within our app.
The lawyers only took up 55% of what would’ve been my salary. As such, the content creator decided the best way for us to advertise our app would be by hiring the acting talent of Terry Cruiz to act out an Old Spice-esque commercial. After paying for Terry Cruiz to act in our commercial, we realized we didn’t have enough funds to create a proper studio-quality commercial. We present our commercial idea to the school board in hopes of receiving aid from an elementary school for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work closely with an actor to create something studio-like. Our clever disguise for “child labour.” The school board obviously accepted because they all love Terry Cruiz.
The marketing expert left the creative direction to the school and Terry Cruiz; Terry Cruiz loved this creative idea because he is Terry Cruiz. The ad was a great success for two reasons. Firstly, everyone loves Terry Cruiz, and secondly, everyone loves the creativity of elementary school children.
The app was launched smoothly and increased the traffic of amateur pilots to small airports. We implemented their feature requests to allow pilots to easily add accommodations, such as lodging, transportation, food services, etc.
To summarize, because I was an unpaid intern, we were able to hire Terry Cruiz for an ad that everyone loved, and amateur flight club memberships increased by 468% in the first week after airing. Coincidentally, there was an increase in flight accidents to 32%, but we were not held legally responsible due to the contract our legal team created.
